Risk of Falling Care Standards due to Staffing Levels
The Royal College of Nursing has warned that unless the whole of the UK can guarantee safe staffing levels, NHS care standards will decline.
Wales already enshrines safe staffing in law and the RCN has called for the rest of the UK to follow suit, with the college cautioning that there are not enough registered nurses and health care support workers in the system to provide adequate care. They also revealed that mental health and community care are experiencing the greatest shortages and that four out of five NHS nursing directors are concerned that their hospitals are relying on the goodwill of staff to keep services running.
Janet Davies, RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary, addressed the staffing crisis in her keynote speech to Congress.
