MP: NHS Bill Will Integrate Physiotherapy Services
The NHS Reinstatement Bill will integrate physiotherapy services in a multi-disciplinary fashion, according to a member of the shadow cabinet.
MP for York Central Rachel Maskell - the shadow environment secretary and a former physiotherapist - says the bill, which will be re-introduced to Parliament by Labour MP Margaret Greenwood on July 13, will deliver a planned model for the provision of future healthcare.
Maskell argues that through this new model - which will integrate health and social care departments and end the health service's internal market - the patient can plan their services to achieve a comprehensive service across multiple NHS disciplines, including physiotherapy.
The bill was drafted by Lord David Owen, health policy professor Allyson Pollock and barrister Peter Roderick, and was previously introduced to Parliament by Green Party leader Caroline Lucas MP.
Though it achieved a second reading by March and is backed by Labour, the Greens and the Scottish National Party, it was not debated due to filibustering tactics from Conservative MPs.
