Mental Health and Body Image – where can you find support?
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Each year, the Mental Health Foundation run a campaign to bring awareness to different mental health topics. Their theme for 2019 is 'Body Image' - how we think and feel about our bodies.
Here at Liquid Personnel, we have put together five recommendations of great resources to provide you with the support you need, whether it’s for you, a family member or close friend.

In support of this year’s theme, Young Minds have created some insightful content focusing on the issue of body image, and what you can do if you’re struggling with the way you look. Their page gives advice on how you can support a friend, and helpful tips on how to be kinder to yourself. With a section on where to look for help and blogs providing tips and advice, this a fantastic resource in support of this year’s theme.
Beat Eating Disorders
Beat have a dedicated campaign in aid of this year’s theme ‘Body Image’, with a strong message that eating disorders do not discriminate. Their message states that everyone deserves fast, high-quality treatment, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, sexuality, age or background. Their ‘breaking down barriers’ page explores their research into eating disorders and who is affected, as well as useful advice on how you can help. Being an eating disorders charity, Beat offer in-depth guidance and support.
Mental Health Foundation
The organisation behind Mental Health Awareness Week have a range of free, supportive online content to help you take care of your own mental health. From useful podcasts and videos, to surveys and a dedicated section on ‘Mindfulness’, which includes an interactive online course.
Their website has loads of new content on their theme for this year ‘Body Image’, with uplifting stories, how you can support their campaign and new research which shows body image issues can affect any of us, of any age.
Headspace have just one mission, which is to improve the health and happiness of the world. Their app is packed full of bite-sized guided meditations, and useful sessions on everything from stress, anxiety and low moods. There are currently millions of people across the world using the Headspace app, proving it helps reduce stress and anxiety. This is a great resource if you’re looking to create a healthier and happier lifestyle for yourself.
Elefriends is a free, online community hosted by the mental health charity Mind. It provides a safe and supportive platform where you can talk and listen to others and receive guidance from people who have been through similar experiences. . If you’re struggling with the way you look, or feeling worried about other aspects of your life, this is a great resource to chat to others and listen to their inspirational stories.
It's also available on the app store, meaning you can download this amazing app straight to your mobile phone.
