Find Out the Cost of Care in Your Area
The BBC has introduced an interactive calculator to help people understand the cost of support available to them.
Due to the ageing population of the UK, it is important that people are aware of the cost of care in their local area – whether it be for themselves or for a loved one. As the social care system is under increasing pressure, the way care is provided differs greatly depending on where you live.
This can create uncertainty for people with regards to knowing how much care they are entitled to. In response to this the BBC have created a care cost calculator that is able to give accurate figures for care in the local area and is also a useful tool to help understand the social care system for people aged 65 and over.
The BBC gathered data from a variety of different sources including NHS digital, the United Kingdom Homecare Association and Freedom of Information Requests. The figures from the calculator are averages and do not calculate based on each individual scenario.
The source includes useful information such as the contribution, on average, your council will pay towards your care, how many people within your area pay for their own care and how the amount of funding you are eligible for is assessed. The calculator provides this information for both residential care and nursing home care.
