Andrew Marr Supports The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Call for More Physios
Andrew Marr, a leading British Journalist and TV presenter, has expressed his support for the CSP’s call for more physios.
The growing needs of the UK population – particularly for stroke rehabilitation, has lead the CSP to argue that 500 additional physiotherapists need to be added each year up until 2020 to meet demand.
The Health Education England, cut the number of physiotherapy training places in England by 6.2%, which meant that there were only 1448 NHS-funded training places for the 2-16/17 intake.
Marr himself had rehabiliton after a stroke nearly 4 years ago. He admits in an interview with Frontline, that he had no idea how devastating the effect of his stroke would be. He said he received outstanding care from the NHS whilst he was in hospital, but once he was released there were not enough staff available in the community to provide the same level of care as the hospital did.
He also stated that it is important to explain the investment in physio will help get people back into employment, quicker.
