Senior Occupational Therapist - Reablement - Surrey Heath - Adult Social Care - £25p/h

We are currently looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist within the adult social care team to provide Occupational Therapy service to adults, their families and their carer's within accordance to the requirements of the Care Act. 

At this level the role is more autonomous as the role requires the senior occupational therapist to engage with individuals, families, groups and communities to assess and intervene demonstrating expert and effective practise in complex situations.  

It will be essential that the senior occupational therapist is able to assess and manage higher levels of risk, striking the balance between support and control and liaising with a wide range of professionals to regularly provide consultation and advice to less experienced colleagues.

Role responsibilities:

  • Casework management
  • Confidently and effectively judge risk and accountability in decision making
  • Develop support plans to meet the outcomes identified in the assessment
  • Provide support and training to carer's and care workers
  • To make detailed recommendations and drawings for major adaptations as part of the Disabled Facilities Grant Process
  • To ensure that everyone with an occupational therapy support plan has the opportunity to reflect and review this plan in a person centred, outcome focussed way
  • To actively engage with families to facilitate contingency planning in anticipation of complex and changing circumstances
  • To identify a range of providers including district and borough councils as well as the voluntary sector
  • Define practise schedules for reablement assistant's to implement
  • Actively respond to Safeguarding concerns
  • Professional responsibility for clear recording of analysis and decision making by maintaining up to date case work record as required by The Surrey County Council
  • A willingness to learn how to use the SCC adult social care data base

As an Occupational Therapist, you MUST be:

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy qualification (degree or diploma)
  • Previous post qualified experienced
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Supervision skills and experience
  • Providing personal and professional support and development to colleagues
  • Complex moving and handling risk assessments
  • Experience of specialist equipment and adaptations of moving and handling equipment
  • Experience of complex occupational assessments using functional measurement tools
  • Providing information, advice and guidance in line with the Care Act
  • Experience of working in adult social care services
  • Must have a full driver's license with access to your own car
  • An up to date working knowledge of relevant national, local policy, statutory guidance, and legislation in relation to the provision of social care services
  • An applied knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Considerable knowledge of the understanding of the different models of disability and how they impact the individual, their carer, and family
